Major Incident Coverage—September 11, 2001

Sept. 1, 2016
As part of our ongoing celebration of Firehouse Magazine’s 40th anniversary, we share with you examples of Firehouse’s commitment to major incident coverage through the years. This month in history: 9/11.

September 11, 2001, is a day that no American will ever forget, as it represents the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil and the largest loss of firefighters in our nation’s history. From the moment the first plane struck the North Tower, Firehouse reacted, providing readers coverage of all types related to the response and recovery, the memorials and the tragic battles that far too many continue to fight as they struggle with the devastating effects of various occupational-related illnesses, including cancer and behavioral health-related issues.

This event will forever serve as a reminder of the role we play as first responders and the unknown risks that come with every response. Big city or small town, volunteer or paid, the oath is the same: Save lives and protect property.

This year, 15 years after the tragic day, we honor and remember the 343 who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we give thanks to the thousands who have and continue to provide assistance to the City of New York and America’s Bravest.
