A shirtless man sitting on the roof of a burning house kept moving back, away from the encroaching flames.
I didn't know what he was talking about, then the window blew out, glass shattered kind of sound. The fire started to engulf the roof," Antaeya Foster told abc 7.
The man eventually held onto the gutter, but let go. He ran back into the house to help the owner, an elderly woman. But his rescue didn't go as planned.
Orangetown police officers heard the screams, rushed into the burning home, and got them out.
However, the rescue was not over as a second man was still inside. Two officers crawled up the stairs and found that man unresponsive on the second floor and also got him out. He and the other residents were transported for treatment.
The three officers also were transported.
