Firefighters responding to a rescue call in Derry Township were able to free a man whose hand was stuck in a corn picker on Sunday.
The man was flown from the scene for medical treatment, Eastern Derry Volunteer Fire Company Chief Derrick Bollinger said.
The 2:30 p.m. incident occurred on Route 217, near the Indiana County border, Bollinger said.
The man was conscious and able to speak with rescuers.
"He told us he was trying to clean it out. We got him free," Bollinger said.
He estimated the man was in his late 50s. He was not sure whether he lived or worked on the property where the incident happened.
Rescue personnel used a Hurst tool and pry bars to separate the man's hand from the machine, Bollinger said.
A medical helicopter landing zone was set up at a ball field in Brenizer.
Bollinger was not sure what hospital was treating the man.
