One person is dead and a firefighter was sent to the hospital following a mayday at a two-alarm house fire in Royalton.

One person is dead after a fire in a Royalton home late Sunday night, according to officials

A neighbor called 911 at 9:14 p.m. after seeing flames coming out of a home in the 500 block of Water Street, Mayor James Fry said at the scene.

Fry said the neighbor told first responders there was an older disabled person who lived in the home, but officials were not able to confirm the identity of the fire victim late Sunday.

The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office transported the body from the scene around 12:15 a.m. Monday.

Fry could not comment on earlier reports of a firefighter injury.

Structural damage was to the building was clear, as crews had to install metal and wood supports at the front of the building in order to get to the victim inside. The house reignited multiple times, but due to the instability of the house, crews mostly fought the fire from the outside.

Fire investigators were at the scene. A second alarm mayday was called during the firefight, bringing crews from all over the region to assist.
