Nov. 05--MERIDEN -- Two men were taken to a hospital with possible symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning Friday morning, fire officials said.
The men, who were found on the floor of La Fontana restaurant, 464 Colony St., appear to have been staying in the restaurant, according to Fire Chief James Trainor. They had been sleeping on mattresses when firefighters found them around 9 a.m.
Rescue crews took the men out of the building and administered CPR on them before taking them in an ambulance to Midstate Medical Center, Trainor said. After a medical evaluation, the men were taken to Hartford Hospital for further treatment.
Both men were conscious at the time of transport, Trainor said. He was unsure of their condition Friday evening.
Trainor said the men had been using a generator inside the restaurant with the door closed because the restaurant did not have power. Firefighters also found a propane heater inside the building, but officials were working to determine which led to the unusually high levels of carbon monoxide.
