New Mexico Firefighter Killed in Crash

His vehicle veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

Family of 36-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez tell KFOX they're trying to keep strong and and keep their son's memory alive.

Ramirez died Saturday morning while he was responding to a medical call as a volunteer firefighter. An eyewitness told KFOX he saw the rescue unit hit a light pole and roll over. Firefighters say he died a short time later.

Ramirez's father told KFOX his son was a caring man. "He always did his best to help the community as much as he could," said his father Jose Ramirez.

Funeral Information

Ramirez will be remembered at a memorial service/viewing from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 21 at the Far South Fire Department at 827 Luna Drive, Chaparral, NM.

The procession will begin at 4 p.m. at the Sunset Funeral Home at 4631 Hondo Pass Dr, El Paso, Texas, and will end at the fire station.
