PINE GROVE, Ore. (AP) -- A fire burning on the north side of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation has grown to 7,500 acres, Oregon's largest wildfire of the summer.

About 680 people were fighting the Log Springs fire, said Roger Peterson, spokesman at the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center in Portland. The blaze was 30 percent contained, he said.

Residents of 21 homes near the small town of Simnasho in Central Oregon had been under a voluntary evacuation. Most of them had returned to their homes as of Wednesday evening, and an evacuation site had been closed, Peterson said.

Area winds had died down from roughly 15 to 10 miles per hour, Peterson said, allowing fire crews to better control the blaze. The weather remained warm and dry.

The fire was first reported Sunday afternoon. A cause has yet to be determined.
