Preconference Education at Firehouse World Offers Global Perspectives

Firehouse World 2016 preconference educational offerings provide the opportunity to dive deep into relevant topics of your choosing.

Fire service trade shows are a great place to explore, learn and network with firefighters from your region, state or nationally. Firehouse World 2016 will feature more than 80 conference sessions where you will learn from some of the most notable U.S and international fire service instructors.

The exhibit hall features a multiple of products, and in support of the fire service, it will be supporting a Burn Survivor Benefit.

Incident Safety Officer Certification Program

This two-day certification program will be presented Dave Dodson, the author of the recently released 3rd Edition, Fire Department Incident Safety Officer. Upon completion of this program, attendees will be eligible to take the exam for National Certification onsite or by using an approved local proctor at a later date. 

Featured Preconference Sessions on Monday, Feb. 1

Fireground Air Management – U.S./UK Perspective - Air management and accountability are critical components of fireground safety that many departments have struggled to effectively implement and manage.  Dave Payton, West Midlands Fire Service, Birmingham, UK will share how the fire service in the United Kingdom (UK) has maintained a system of entry control for decades that provides an effective approach to both air management and accountability for firefighters working in the hazard zone. This workshop will provide an overview of the UK entry control and air management procedures including the responsibilities of firefighters working in the hazard zone, entry control officers, the relationship between entry control and command, and how technology is used to improve the entry control process.

Smoke Spread Control and Flow Path Control – A European PerspectiveRegional Fire Commander Michael Reick, of the Göppingen Fire Department in Germany will explore the principles of stabilizing smoke spread and fire conditions have been studied extensively in Central Europe in the last 10 years. The principles and limitations of these strategies will be explained, along with examples of incidents  where these approaches have been successfully applied.

The Implementation and Instruction of Fire Behavior Training Program - District of North Vancouver Fire Rescue Services Director of Fire Behavior Training Ian Bolton will help attendees sharpen their skills in developing and implementing an in-depth and advanced fire dynamics program for your department. The focus is on modern fire research and tactics and the capability of explaining fundamental science principles and concepts to all firefighters in an easy-to understand manner.

Command & Control - “Better and Safer” - Los Angeles County Deputy Chief (ret.) Mike Bryant will give a review of recent LODD/injury reports reveal a number of critical factors that continue to contribute to challenge incident commanders around the country.  This program is designed to improve a commanders confidence with a practical 8-step process to implement an effective incident action plan to help manage and navigate environments of chaos, the fog of war, and the danger and uncertainty of the modern fireground.
