Firefighters worked for three hours to contain an April 11 fire that spread through a Hinsdale home built in 1899.
The first 911 call reported a porch fire at the home known locally as "American Beauty."
Crews found fire from the basement to the roof of the three-story home that measured approximately 100 by 125 feet. Fire officials said the balloon frame construction allowed the fire to spread throughout the walls.
The three-alarm fire, which brought firefighters from a dozen departments, was placed under control about 6:30 p.m.
Fire officials said the home suffered extensive damage.
