A firefighter has been hospitalized after crews waged a difficult battle against a fire in a community just west of the New York capital of Albany.

NEWS10 reports that Onesquethaw firefighters were called to 2399 Delaware Turnpike in Voorheesville early Tuesday morning after a neighbor saw flames erupt at a nearby structure through dense woods.

Firefighters said battling the large blaze was a struggle because the cabin was set back a significant distance from the main road. Crews had to run roughly 750 feet of hose when their apparatus could not fit down the connecting roadway.

Additionally, firefighters had to traverse muddy roads on foot and cross a creek which was swollen from recent heavy rainfall. They used ATVs to continually transport more water to the fireground, but officials say the structure is no longer standing.

Officials also said a firefighter was injured and hospitalized, possibly from a cardiac episode, but his condition is unknown.
