One firefighter was injured while battling an electrical house fire in South Acres on Monday morning, authorities said.

The Houston Fire Department arrived around 3:45 a.m. at the home on Elm Tree Drive and MLK Boulevard.

An elderly woman who lived there woke up coughing to smoke in her house, HFD District Chief Christopher Chavez said. She evacuated immediately.

The firefighter who was injured was taken to Memorial Hermann with non-traumatic injuries, possibly from heat exhaustion.

The fire appeared to start around the attic, and is not believed to be arson, Chavez said. The home is believed to be a complete loss.
