NORFOLK, VAAn 11-year-old was taken to the hospital and her father was rescued from a fire at The Willows condominiums early Friday, fire officials said.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue got a call at 5:12 a.m. and when firefighters got to the complex near E. Little Creek Road, they found heavy fire and smoke in the back of the building, said Battalion Chief Garry Windley.

The man was pulled through the window of the second floor and the child was rescued using the interior stairs, Windley said.

The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

Two other units have fire damage and two have smoke damage, Windley said. Six adults and three children are displaced.

The fire started in the back of the building but the cause is still being investigated.
