NM Firefighter Injured in Fall During Fatal House Blaze

Two Albuquerque firefighters fell through the second floor while battling a blaze that broke out at a home in an upscale Tanoan subdivision early Friday, killing one person.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—A house fire in the upscale Tanoan subdivision left one person dead and a firefighter injured early Friday morning, according to Albuquerque Fire Rescue.

Two firefighters fell through the second floor while battling the blaze, AFR officials told reporters. One of those firefighters was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

The fire broke out at a large home on the 6500 block of Glen Oak, near Academy. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 4:30 a.m. When they arrived, they encountered heavy flames and smoke.

AFR officials said the person who died lived alone. Firefighters were able to pull the individual out of the burning structure.

According to AFR, there was a partial collapse on the first floor, and then the second floor collapsed. The house was destroyed.
