MA Firefighters Carry Woman from Burning Apartment
LUDLOW, MA—A woman was hospitalized when trapped in her burning Rood Street apartment late Tuesday, according to a fire official.
The woman, whose name was not released to the press, was found inside her apartment and carried outside by firefighters, said Fire Chief Gary Pease. She was transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. No report was available on her condition.
Firefighters were called to 196 Rood St. for a reported fire at 10:51 p.m. A resident called Ludlow Central Dispatch to report the fire and being trapped inside her apartment.
Pease said that when firefighters arrived within 4 minutes, they found the read of the multi-family dwelling engulfed in flames. Firefighters made a quick entry inside the apartment to find and rescue the woman.
Residents of the other four apartments in the dwelling were evacuated.
Firefighters were able to control the flames, containing them to a single apartment, he said.
Firefighters at the scene were assisted by Ludlow police, off-duty Ludlow firefighters, and by Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, Wilbraham and the Chicopee fire departments. Springfield Fire provided station coverage.
State police assigned to the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and it is not considered suspicious.
According to Ludlow records, the property is owned by Pedro D. Fernandes and Luciana L. Rodamilans, and has an assessed value of $614,000.
