Chicago Firefighter Injured in Fall During Fatal Blaze

A Chicago firefighter was taken to the hospital in good condition after falling though the floor while battling a house blaze in the city's Fernwood neighborhood that killed one man.

A man in his 60s died and a firefighter was injured in a fire that broke out in a home in the Fernwood neighborhood on the South Side on Thursday morning, officials said.

Crews responded to a call in the 400 block of West 104th Street about 5:45 a.m., according to the Fire Department. They found the man dead inside.

The firefighter was injured when he fell through the floor of the home. The firefighter was transported in good condition to a hospital, according to department spokesman Larry Merritt.

Chicago police were investigating the death.
