DeKalb County firefighters battled blazes at two homes next to each other Friday morning after a fire began in one of the houses and quickly spread.
Crews responded to the fires in the 2450 block of Parkland Drive near McNair Middle School shortly before 9:30 a.m., DeKalb fire spokesman Capt. Dion Bentley said.
“One house was fully involved when we got there, and because the houses were close enough, the other house caught on fire,” Bentley said.
Crews were able to extinguish the second fire quickly, but the first home was badly damaged, he said. No one was inside either home when firefighters arrived.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital after suffering minor burns while putting out the fires, but he is expected to be OK.
It appears the fires were accidental, though the cause remains under investigation, Bentley said.
