Video: OK Crews Battle 4-Alarm Fire that Destroys Buildings
A four-alarm fire near downtown Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon destroyed four buildings and caused more than $180,000 in damage, according to fire officials.
Around 3:50 p.m. on Sunday afternoon the Oklahoma City Fire Department was called out to a large structure fire in the 1800 block of NW 5th Street. Fire officials said smoke from the blaze was seen from as far away as Norman.
Once on scene, firefighters began trying to extinguish the blaze from two metal-clad buildings. Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson said they met with the owner of the buildings and said he used the two buildings as a warehouse to store building construction materials.
Owners told firefighters that the business was closed and no workers were there at the time of fire. No civilian injuries were reported, but one firefighter was transported to the hospital with an arm injury.
The owners also told fire fighters that three dogs were inside. One dog was found with minor burn injuries. The other two dogs were not located.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates were set at $93,358 for the structures and $93,000 for contents.
