Three Baltimore County firefighters were injured battling an apartment complex blaze in Middle River, and police were called in to prevent people from reentering the burning building.

Baltimore County crews rescued several people during a three-alarm apartment complex fire Sunday that injured two firefighters and two residents.

The blaze broke out at about 3:30 p.m. at White Marsh Apartments in Middle River, WBAL-TV reports. Flames raged through two buildings in the complex, and  crews were able to rescue multiple residents while getting the fire under control after about 45 minutes.

Two firefighters and two residents suffered injuries that weren't considered life-threatening during the blaze. A firefighter also was treated for heat exhaustion, according to WBAL.

In an online update, the fire department said police were called "to ensure individuals did not re-enter fire building." Some reports said crews were attacked while at the scene, but the department said it could not confirm that objects were thrown at firefighters.
