NJ Woman, Dog Rescued from 3-Alarm Blaze; Four FFs Injured
Firefighters braved Tuesday’s sweltering heat to rescue a woman and a dog from a three-alarm fire on the West Side of Jersey City, officials said.
Four firefighters suffered injuries, including one with a hand burn and others with chest pains, while responding to the blaze inside a three-story building at the corner of West Side and Virginia avenues, Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.
The ground floor of the building is retail space, while the top two floors comprise eight residential units, she added.
Officials said no other residents were home at the time other than the woman who was rescued.
The four firefighters who were injured were taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
Firefighters battled the blaze in 90-plus-degree heat, with a heat index of 96 degrees.
