Sept. 21, 2023
Paterson firefighters found two adults, an 8-year-old and an infant unconscious on the third floor.

Paterson firefighters rescued four people, including an infant, from a burning home Wednesday.

The residents were trapped on the third floor of the home, ABC 7 reported.

The unconscious adults, an 8-year-old child, and an infant were taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center, in critical condition.

The child was transferred to St. Barnabus Hospiital while the baby was in pediatric intensive care.

"I'm hoping they are OK. I don't know right now," Paterson Deputy Fire Chief William Bucher told reporters.

The fire left 13 people homeless. Residents on the first floor say they were lucky to have escaped.

Two dogs died in the fire while a firefighter suffered a minor burn to his cheek.
