MA Firefighters Rescue Two People from Apartment Blaze

Aug. 6, 2020
Crews rescued a woman on the first floor and a man on the third from a burning apartment building in Everett that displaced dozens of residents early Thursday.

Two people were rescued after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Everett overnight Wednesday, causing dozens more to be temporarily displaced, news outlets reported.

The blaze started at a building on Linden Street around 1:30 a.m., WCVB reported. A woman on the first floor and a man on the third were rescued by firefighters.

According to Everett Fire Chief Tony Carli, the fire started in a second-floor unit and displaced roughly 45 to 50 people living in the building, WCVB reported.

He told the news outlet that residents and first responders were lucky the fire did not spread due to the older-style construction of the building.

“They made a quick rescue off the third floor in the front of the building. They made another quick rescue over the ladder, [firefighters] rescued a female from the first floor, rescued a male from the third floor,” Carli told WCVB.

The fire was contained, and many of the displaced residents were able to go back inside the apartment building around 4 a.m., WCVB reported.

No injuries were reported, according to the news outlet.

Residents who live closest to the apartment that caught on fire may be displaced longer, though, due to smoke and water damage, WHDH reported.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but it appeared to be accidental, officials told WCVB.
