Three Major Residential Blazes Injure Nine FDNY Firefighters

Over a five-hour span late Monday and early Tuesday, multiple FDNY units battled three house fires across Staten Island that also injured one civilian.

Three major Staten Island residential blazes erupted in a five-hour span late Monday and early Tuesday, injuring nine FDNY firefighters.

The first house fire broke out at around 11:20 p.m. Monday in New Brighton, the Staten Island Advance reports. A dozen FDNY units consisting of 60 firefighters responded to the call, and four firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The second blaze started shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday at a two-story house in New Springville. More than 100 FDNY firefighters from 24 units worked for almost an hour, with three firefighters hospitalized and treated for minor injuries.

The third call came in just after 4 a.m. in Stapleton, according to the Advance. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, and a civilian was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that weren't life-threatening.

All three fires are under investigation, the Advance added.
