Pittsburgh Firefighter Breaks Ankle During Blaze

A Pittsburgh firefighter was taken to the hospital after fracturing an ankle while battling a blaze that broke out an abandoned building in Wilkinsburg.

A Pittsburgh firefighter was injured while battling a one-alarm fire in Wilkinsburg on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews, firefighters with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire responded to an abandoned structure at the 500 block of Singer Place around 2 p.m. On scene, one firefighter sustained a fractured ankle. They were transported by medics to Mercy Hospital.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes.

No other injuries were reported. Officials are investigating the fire.
