Video: NJ Crews Fight Fatal 3-Alarm Fire at 'Hoarder' House

Firefighters encountered "extensive accumulated debris" as they worked to put out a massive blaze at a vacant duplex in Trenton that killed a 63-year-old man.

A 63-year-old man was killed in a massive fire in a hoarder house in Trenton on Tuesday, authorities said.

Firefighters had trouble entering the home on the 700 block of Southard Street around 8:30 p.m, due to “extensive accumulated debris” blocking the entrance, an official said.

The man, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, was found on the first-floor of the duplex.

It took firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control, though it spread to a connected occupied unit, authorities said. Firefighters kept the fire from jumping to adjacent lots, though.

Video from 6abc.com showed large flames pouring from the roof of the home.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
