WI Firefighters Put Out Blaze Hours after Expanding Service

High winds created a challenge for City of Madison firefighters trying to put out a burning metal storage building in the Town of Madison, the department's first call after expanding into town limits.

A Wisconsin department responded to its first fire early Sunday, just hours after expanding its service to a nearby town

City of Madison firefighters received the call at a metal storage building in the Town of Madison limits shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to the department. Beginning at midnight, the city fire department extended its coverage area into the town limits.

Once at the scene, crews entered the structure and discovered burning debris. High winds created a challenge for firefighters trying to put out the flames and search the building, the department said.

The fire eventually was extinguished and did not spread to other structures. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
