Nov. 17, 2020
Akron firefighters rescued the occupant of a two-unit rental home, and crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire that broke out in the building's attic.

Akron firefighters rescued a person from a burning two-unit rental home on Corson Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters said they found the occupant on the first floor of the home at 86 Corson Ave.; the person was treated by the fire department's on-scene medical unit. A caller told the fire department that smoke was coming out from under a door and that the caller was unable to wake the resident.

No other details on the person who was rescued were immediately available, including whether the person was male or female. No other people were found inside. The Red Cross was contacted, the fire department said.

Firefighters first on the scene found smoke coming from the attic of the home. The fire was quickly put out, the fire department said.

In another incident about 3:30 Monday afternoon, Akron Fire Department put out a fire in a suspected "flop house" at 1205 Hart St. A caller said there was a possible second-floor fire and that everyone was out of the house.

Firefighters found light smoke and what was described as a possible second floor bedroom fire. Firefighters said they found electrical wiring that "jumped" the meter box and called Ohio Edison to disconnect the wiring.
