A large fire at a building in the 2200 block of West Sample Street Friday afternoon closed the stretch of road between Olive and Walnut streets.

Police closed the street as smoke began blowing across the road and fire trucks and crews began battling the blaze that broke out shortly before 4 p.m. in a building at 2205 W. Sample St. Explosions were heard at the fire site, and it is believed that there are chemicals in the building.
