Video: Woman Dangles from Ladder During OH Rescue

Dec. 12, 2020
Video posted to social media by the Columbus Division of Fire shows a woman who refused assistance flipping over and dangling by her legs on a ground ladder while trying to escape a third-floor fire.

The Columbus Division of Fire posted video to social media showing a scary moment when a woman they were attempting to rescue from an apartment fire tumbled over and wound up dangling from a ground ladder.

According to the post about the Dec. 5 incident, the woman is refusing assistance from Columbus firefighters after they set up ladders to remove occupants from a balcony with smoke emanating from a window in another section of the apartment.

As one firefighter descends the ladder to give the woman space, she shoves a firefighter trying to assist from the balcony and loses her footing, tumbling over and briefly dangling upside down before the ladder crew member quickly climbs back up to stabilize her.

"What nobody knew was the person being helped onto the ladder did not want to be rescued and was combatting firefighter’s efforts," the post says. "This is an example of how fast things can move and proof that we can never let our guard down and we must be ready for everything."
