A five-alarm fire tore through a dozen Baltimore homes on multiple streets and injured a firefighter Friday.

The fire began just before 2:30 p.m. in the city's southwest area, The Baltimore Sun reports. It's not clear how the fire started, but the Baltimore City Fire Department stated in an online update that the flames spread to homes over multiple spreads.

According to the department, 12 homes were on fire during the incident. When crews arrived, houses were showing "heavy fire & smoke through the roof."

Only two of the homes were occupied, but no civilians were injured in the fire, the department added.

A firefighter was injured while battling the blaze. The firefighter was taken to the hospital, and the department stated that the injuries weren't considered life-threatening.
