Woman Rescued as She Clung to Roof in Fatal MA Fire

A man was killed in and a woman rescued from a house fire in a Worcester County town late Wednesday, news outlets reported.

The blaze was reported at a three-family home on High Street around 9:40 p.m. A third alarm was eventually struck for the structure fire, according to the Webster Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, flames were pouring out of the roof of the house, and there was a heavy fire on the side of the building, WCVB reported.

The woman was clinging onto the roof of the house when fire crews got to the scene. She was rescued with a neighbor’s ladder, according to NBC Boston.

The man who died was trapped inside the home during the fire. The blaze was too intense, and firefighters had to be removed from the building, WCVB reported. He was later found on the second floor.

There were a lot of obstacles on the second floor, where firefighters were trying to locate the man, and the blaze was escalating “pretty heavily below them,” Webster Fire Chief Brian Hickey told NBC Boston.

Another person who was in the basement of the house at the time of the fire escaped the blaze, according to the news outlet.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The name of the man who died has yet to be released to the public.
