Three NC Firefighters Injured During Difficult House Fire

Three North Carolina firefighters were injured during a challenging residential fire early Monday.
The fire broke out shortly before 1:30 a.m. after a mattress caught fire in a Goldston home, WRAL-TV reports. The homeowner dragged the mattress outside, but flames from it engulfed the residence.
Two Goldston firefighters and a Bennett firefighter were injured and taken to the hospital after battling the fire, according to WTVD-TV. Two of the firefighters suffered trauma-related injuries, while the third firefighter's injuries were heat-related, WRAL reports.
The size of the fire and the large amount of trees near the home made the call for crews, and additional departments were called in to help. Although there wree fears of the flames spreading, firefighters were able to keep the fire contained.
Investigators are looking into what caused the mattress to catch fire.
