July 26, 2021
Topeka Fire Department crews pulled two people from separate apartments after a fire broke out in the three-story building and caused around $100,000 in damage.

Topeka firefighters rescued two men early Sunday morning after responding to a fire that did an estimated $100,000 damage at a three-story apartment building at 1205 S.W. Polk. No one was hurt.

The fire's cause was undetermined and remained under investigation, said Topeka Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.

He said firefighters responded just after 2 a.m. to the scene, where they rescued the men from separate apartments.

The fire was found to have begun in the living room of Apt. 2A, Harrison said.

Damages were estimated at $80,000 to the building and $20,000 to its contents, he said.

Working smoke detectors were found in the building, Harrison said.

Topeka firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Topeka Police Department, Evergy and Kansas Gas Service, he said.

Harrison asked anyone with information about circumstances of the fire to call Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 or toll-free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Shawnee County Appraiser's Office records show the building at 1205 S.W. Polk is owned by Spearville-based Momentum Investment Group LLC and had an appraisal value of $1,335,870.
