Three-Story NJ Building Collapses after Major Fire

Oct. 14, 2021
No injuries were reported after Trenton firefighters spent hours battling a fire overnight at a three-story mixed-occupancy building before it collapsed.

A three-story building in Trenton’s South Ward burned for hours early Thursday before collapsing after 3 a.m.

City firefighters remain at the scene at 12 p.m. as smoke continues to sift through the flattened structure at South Broad and Dye streets. The blaze was reported shortly after 12 a.m.

The Trenton Fire Department reported no injuries, nor a cause of the fire, which is under investigation. It’s unclear if any residents lived in the building, but a dollar store on the first floor is gone.

Video from photojournalists show major fire and smoke coming from the building in the early hours, and dozens of firefighters pouring water on the building from exterior positions, and using aerial ladders, for several hours.
