Photos: Fire Damages Two TX Businesses

Kyle's fire chief said the fire was contained to one business before it spread to the second building through attic space.

Jan. 27—A large fire destroyed two businesses in downtown Kyle early Thursday morning.

Firefighters closed off multiple city blocks, and City Hall shut down for the day, but no injury has been reported.

The fire was first reported at 1:52 a.m. Thursday at Papa Jack's, a restaurant at 108 W. Center St. The restaurant is across the street from City Hall.

Kyle fire Chief Kyle Taylor said the blaze initially was isolated to Papa Jack's restaurant, and crews were putting out the fire from inside. The flames grew too quickly, though, and eventually spread to the neighboring business, Jack's Axes, which shares a roof with Papa Jack's.

"The fire spread through their common attic," Taylor said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but the fire marshal is on scene.

Fifty firefighters from six departments responded to the blaze. It was extinguished fully by 10 a.m., but the area around the buildings is still closed off as crews work to mop up hot spots and secure any structural damage.

Due to the massive emergency response, Center Street is closed from Front Street to Burleson Street and likely will be closed for several more hours.
