Apr. 29—A fire in a solar panel on Thursday forced residents to evacuate a home in Lee's Summit.
The blaze was reported shortly after 4:50 p.m. Thursday in the 4300 block of N.E. Walnut Ridge, Assistant Chief Jim Eden said in a news release.
When crews with the Lee's Summit Fire Department arrived, light smoke was visible from the attic of the two-story house.
The occupants were already outside.
A fire from solar panels near the roof's peak had spread into the attic, Eden said. Firefighters isolated power from the three panels and extinguished the fire, which was under control by 5:13 p.m.
The living room had minor water damage.
The fire started in a solar panel, but the exact cause could not be determined, Eden said.
The residents were able to return to the house.
