One West Valley City firefighter was flown to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

A staircase collapse at a construction site left three West Valley City firefighters and a patient injured Monday.

One of the firefighters was flown to an area trauma center. The firefighter  "suffered significant injuries and has a ways to go, but is steadily improving," officials tweeted Monday night.

The other firefighters were released after treatment. The condition of the 34-year-old patient they were carrying when the collapse happened is not known.

Another firefighter who experienced the later onset of pain related to the collapse is undergoing further evaluation, officers tweeted.
