LA FFs Rescue Trapped Construction Worker

Shreveport rescue personnel were able to free the worker who became trapped up to his waist when the ground around him caved in.

The Shreveport Fire Department came to the rescue when a man became trapped at a construction site.

KTAL reported that a male worker was doing construction work at the intersection of Linwood Avenue and Bert Kouns Industrial Loop when the ground caved in and trapped him up to his waist.

KSLA reported that Shreveport Fire Department personnel were summoned to rescue the man at 3:18 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1.

Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief John Lane told KSLA that fire department personnel arrived within five minutes then called in the special operations team trained in handling such rescues, 

It took them 17 minutes to shore up the ground around the worker then use hand tools to dig him free.

The worker was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

One firefighter suffered minor heat exhaustion during the rescue.
