IL Firefighter Battles Blaze at Daughter's Home
When an Illinois woman's home caught fire recently, a familiar face arrived with the fire department: her father.
Tim Smith, a firefighter with the Marissa Fire Department for more than 20 years, was part of the crew that responded to the fire at the mobile home of his only daughter, Kyra, on Jan. 11, KDSK-TV reports.
"I found out right when I showed up. I didn't realize it was hers until I got there," Tim Smith told the TV station. "So when I showed up and saw her crying, that's when I knew."
Although Smith and firefighters from several other fire departments tried to save the home, the fire destroyed everything, and Kyra was only able to escape with the clothes she was wearing.
"(I)t's gone, you know, that's the first thing I told her. There's nothing you can do, don't think about it, it's gone," Tim Smith told KDSK. "You can't bring it back, but you're healthy, you're alive, that's all that matters."
