Eight NY Firefighters Hurt in Fatal House Fire

A 55-year-old woman was found dead by firefighters in a burning Staten Island home Thursday. The woman's nephew was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Eight New York firefighters suffered minor injuries in a house fire Thursday that left a woman dead.

Crews responded to the Staten Island fire at around 7 a.m., and they saw heavy smoke coming from the two-story home as they arrived, WABC-TV reports. Fire officials said a 55-year-old woman was found dead in a basement apartment by firefighters.

The woman's nephew, 23, was taken to Richmond Medical Center, and another person was treated at the scene. The firefighters also were treated at the scene, according to WABC.
