Firefighters put themselves in harm's way daily to fight fires and save lives — human or otherwise. Dramatic video shared by Richmond firefighters showed what happened Sunday at a burning apartment where two dogs were trapped inside.

The video, taken on a body camera, shows a firefighter rushing through the smoky apartment, trying to find the source of one of the dog's high-pitched crying.

"I know, I hear it!" he shouts to one of his colleagues as he tracks down the source. It's hard to see through the thick smoke as the firefighter searches.

A few seconds later, he locates the pup and shouts, "Get ready, on your right! Dog coming out!"

As other firefighters continue to put out smoldering spots on the fire, the firefighter identified as "E61 Firefighter Silvas" performed CPR on the dog until it could breathe on its own.

"The coordinated efforts of all crews on scene made this rescue and resuscitation possible. The family was beyond happy that this was able to happen," the firefighters' union wrote on Facebook.

The Facebook post explains neither dog was burned in the fire. They were both treated for smoke inhalation.
