CT Firefighter Injured in Blaze that Displaced 17 People

Thanks to working smoke detectors, residents were able to safely escape the fire that broke out at a home in New Haven and spread to two nearby residences early Friday.

A Connecticut firefighter was injured while battling a residential blaze that damaged multiple houses and displaced 17 people early Friday.

The fire broke out at a New Haven home just before 4 a.m., WTIC-TV reports. Flames eventually spread to two nearby houses, and residents were able to safely escape thanks to working smoke detectors.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. It wasn't explained how the injury happened, but officials told WTIC that the firefighter was expected to recover.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
