A suspected arsonist was taken into custody late Thursday after San Diego firefighters spotted him allegedly starting a second nearby blaze.
Crews responded to an SUV fire at about 11 a.m. in San Diego's Pacific Beach neighborhood, KGTV-TV reports. As firefighters were cleaning up that scene, they received a call for another fire a few blocks away.
Once firefighters arrived at the scene of the second call, they spotted a man setting cardboard on fire in an alley. They then called San Diego police, who detained when they arrived at the scene.
Police questioned the suspect, and he allegedly confessed to starting the earlier SUV fire, KGTV added. Both incidents are being investigated by the fire and police departments.
