On-scene footage shows how Indianapolis Fire Department crews used a combination of water and foam to handle a fire consuming a 3,000-gallon fuel tanker on Interstate 465 on Saturday.
According to the IFD, the unharmed driver said he believed the fire started when the drive shaft came loose and punched a hole in the tank. He heard a loud bang and quickly pulled over and exited the vehicle to a safe distance.
Crews needed to make 12 trips with three tankers to the closest hydrant to continue filling dump tanks at the scene during a labor-intensive operation.
