Baltimore City Firefighter Injured in Mayday During House Fire

The firefighter needed to be pulled from a burning home after falling through a hole from the first floor to the basement.

A Baltimore City firefighter was injured during a mayday while battling a house fire Wednesday.

The residential fire broke out just before 4 p.m., and flames could be seen coming from the third floor as crews arrived at the home, Baltimore's firefighters union stated in an online post. One occupant was rescued by a neighbor before firefighters reached the scene, WJZ-TV reports.

While battling the fire, a firefighter fell through the first floor to the basement, and a mayday was issued, according to the union. The firefighter was rescued and pulled from the burning home with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.

Crews were able to get the fire under control shortly after 5 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
