A North Carolina firefighter was injured by falling debris while battling a large house fire early Monday.
The fire broke out at about 7:30 a.m. at a home in Mint Hill, WSOC-TV reports. Heavy flames and smoke were spilling out of the roof as crews from multiple departments and counties responded to the call.
The intensity from the fire, as well as the heat and humidity of the day, forced firefighters to rotate teams and take breaks while trying to put out the flames. Those conditions also led to firefighters quickly using up their air bottles during the call.
A Mint Hill firefighter was injured by falling wreckage from the while battling the fire. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Three people and three dogs were home at the time of the fire, but they were able to safely escape the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
