South Metro firefighters battled a large fire that started on the exterior of the dwelling and spread into the home causing extensive damage on Sunday evening.
They arrived to heavy fire conditions and deployed attack lines to control the rapidly spreading fire while crews conducted interior searches.
Crews encountered low to zero visibility and extreme heat inside while searching for people and pets, according to a Facebook post by the South Metro Fire Rescue.
No occupants were home at the time of the fire, two dogs and one cat were rescued by firefighters and are doing ok.
Extensive overhaul was needed to locate and extinguish hot spots in the basement, first floor, second floor and attic space.
Investigators determined the cause is accidental. Spontaneous combustion of organic material that was next to the house started the fire according to fire officials.
