Fire Erupts after Natural Gas Line Struck in TX

A large fire ensued after a natural gas pipeline was struck by a vehicle in Mansfield forcing a mile-radius evacuation.

A large fire prompted evacuations in Mansfield after a vehicle struck a natural gas pipeline sparking a blaze near US 287 and State Highway 360 in the southern part of the city.

The blaze which occurred around 1:00 a.m., forced residents within a one-mile radius of the incident to evacuate their homes, officials allowed them to return around 4:15 a.m.

One person was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with "very critical" burn injuries, Mansfield assistant fire chief Jeff Smith said, but it wasn't yet clear if that person was the driver of the vehicle, WFAA reported.

Atmos Energy crews isolated valves to stop the flow of gas and worked to repair the damaged line.
