May 18, 2022
When Suffolk Firefighter Robert Adam Short found the man on the fifth floor, he ripped Short's facepiece away and became combative.

Suffolk firefighter Robert Adam Short was honored by local television station WKTR for his efforts in the rescue of a man who turned combative during a three-alarm fire.

As Short searched the building, he found the man and, while trying to remove him from the building, he became combative and ripped Short's SCBA facepiece from his face.

Refecting on the incident, Short told WKTR, "Really? 'Let's just get him out. Let's get him out. Let's re-situate and go back to work."

Short and the crew passed the man to another crew and continued searching the fifth floor.

He was not injured, and praised the work of his entire crew in the rescue.
