Truck, Produce Burn on NC Highway

Aug. 17, 2022
Charlotte firefighters said the driver escaped and was transported to the hospital for injuries.

A tractor-trailer hauling produce burst into flames Tuesday after striking a concrete barrier.

The driver was transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, WRAL reported.

The fiery crash occurred on I-77 near the I-277 interchange. Traffic on both sides of I-77 were detoured while Charlotte firefighters battle the massive fire.

It was originally thought the rig was carrying ground beef. However, the Charlotte Fire Department tweeted that it was loaded with produce, and there was no danger to the environment.
