Man Gets Behind Wheel of NY Fire Vehicle at Crash Scene

Yaphank firefighters were assisting at a crash scene when the rig was stolen.

A man stole a modified pickup truck from a crash scene on Long Island Saturday evening but his joy ride was cut short.

Yaphank firefighters were assisting at a crash when the New Hampshire resident got behind the wheel and took off, The New York Post reported.

Suffolk police left the crash scene, and pursued the stolen vehicle. He was nabbed a short time later, the paper reported.

Jaime Alexander Brayton, 33, as well as a police officer were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Brayton was charged with grand larceny, assault and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
